Protecting Your Personal Information

Zak Steel Proprietary Limited respects the privacy of its clients, employees, suppliers, website visitors and other stakeholders.

We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA), and provide access to company records in accordance with the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2 of 2000 (PAIA).

Promotion of Access to Information Act

PAIA gives individuals the right to request access to records held by private and public bodies when those records are required for the exercise or protection of a right.

Requests for access to records held by Zak Steel must be directed to the designated Information Officer. The prescribed request procedure and Form 2 are included in the complete ZAK Steel POPIA and PAIA Manual available for download below.

Access to certain records may be refused where disclosure would compromise personal privacy, confidential commercial information, the safety of individuals, company property or other legally protected information.

Protection of Personal Information

Zak Steel collects and processes personal information primarily to:

• Provide access to our products and services
• Respond to enquiries and requests
• Support our contractual relationships
• Arrange the delivery or collection of goods
• Confirm and verify identities where required
• Maintain appropriate business and audit records
• Improve our products, services and customer experience
• Meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements
• Protect the security and integrity of our business operations

The type of information collected depends on the purpose for which it is required. Examples may include:

• Name
• Physical or postal address
• Email address
• Telephone or cellphone number
• Identity or passport number, where required

Where possible, we will indicate which information is required and which information is optional.

How We Use Your Information

Personal information will only be used for the purpose for which it was collected or as otherwise agreed with you.

Information may be used for audit and record-keeping purposes, security and access control, legal proceedings, business development, customer research, contractual obligations and responding to enquiries.

Where third-party service providers process personal information on behalf of Zak Steel, appropriate privacy, confidentiality and security obligations will apply.

Zak Steel applies appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, destruction or disclosure.

These measures may include:

• Virus-protection software and update procedures

Information Retention

Personal information will not be retained for longer than necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer retention period is required for legitimate business or legal reasons.

When information is no longer required and no legal retention obligation applies, it will be securely deleted or destroyed.

Zak Steel may take reasonable steps to confirm your identity before providing access to or making changes to personal information.
