Description
High-Performance Mainline Rail
ZAK supplies SAR 48kg/m, SAR 51kg/m and 57kg/m rail profiles for South African and international mainline, freight and heavy-haul railway projects. The range combines proven regional profiles with internationally recognised manufacturing and quality standards.
Rail Profile Options
- SAR 48kg/m: Standard mainline and secondary freight applications, typically supporting axle loads up to 20-22 tonnes.
- SAR 51kg/m: Upgraded mainline freight corridors requiring greater stiffness and axle-load capacity of approximately 22-26 tonnes.
- 60E1: Heavy-haul and high-capacity corridors, including coal and iron-ore export lines, with axle loads from approximately 26-32+ tonnes.
Material Grades
- R260: Standard pearlitic rail steel for tangent track, offering reliable weldability, strength and ductility.
- 350LHT: Heat-treated rail for heavy-haul curves, braking zones and other high-wear locations, with hardness of 350-390 HBW.
Key Features
- Manufactured to BS EN 13674-1 with SANS/TFR and UIC 860 alignment.
- Available in standard 12 m, 18 m and 36 m lengths.
- Fishbolt drilling can be supplied to project specification.
- Full heat traceability with Mill Test Certificates and Certificates of Conformance.
- R260 tensile strength from 880 MPa and 350LHT tensile strength from 1175 MPa.
- Suitable for continuous welded rail and conventional jointed track systems.
Applications
General freight, high-traffic mainlines, heavy-haul export corridors, network upgrades and new-build railway infrastructure.
Final profile, grade, length, drilling and compliance requirements are confirmed against the project specification.
